Connecting Lemon 3-Zone Ride to a Roland TD Module
Lemon cymbals are generally built to be compatible with Roland modules. The 3-zone cymbal requires the use of two separate inputs on the module, as Roland’s 3-zone cymbal inputs (like those used for the CY-13R/CY-15R) are dual-cable connections.
Connection Settings (Example: Roland TD-17/TD-27)
| Component | Connection Type | Connects To | Zone(s) Triggered |
| Lemon Output 1 (Bow/Edge) | Stereo TRS Cable | Roland Module RIDE Input (Bow/Edge) | Bow, Edge, Choke |
| Lemon Output 2 (Bell) | Mono/Stereo Cable | Roland Module AUX/CRASH 2 (or similar available input) | Bell |
Note on Roland Modules: Higher-end Roland modules (TD-27, TD-50) often have dedicated RIDE and RIDE BELL inputs on the harness. If so, use the dedicated inputs. If your module (like a TD-17 or TD-07) only has one RIDE input and several AUX inputs:
- Connect Lemon Output 1 to the RIDE input.
- Connect Lemon Output 2 to an AUX input (e.g., CRASH 2 or AUX).
Roland Module Trigger Settings (TD-17/TD-27/TD-50)
Once connected, you must assign the inputs to work together as a single 3-zone ride. The settings below are based on common successful configurations for Lemon cymbals.
| Setting | Recommended Value | Explanation |
| Pad Type (RIDE input) | CY-15R or CY-13R | These are Roland’s 3-zone V-Cymbal profiles. Lemon cymbals are most compatible with these. |
| Pad Type (AUX/CRASH input) | CY-5 (or CY-8) | The AUX input is often set to a simple dual-zone crash pad, but you must change its function. |
| Zone Assign (AUX input) | RIDE BELL | Crucial step. This tells the module that the sound from this input is actually the Bell zone of the Ride instrument, linking it to the RIDE input. |
| Sensitivity (RIDE) | 6-10 (Adjust by feel) | Controls the required impact force. Adjust higher for quieter playing; lower if you get false triggers. |
| Sensitivity (AUX/BELL) | 8-12 (Adjust by feel) | The bell piezo may require slightly higher sensitivity to trigger reliably, as it is often a smaller zone. |
| Rim Shot (RIDE input) | OFF | On a cymbal, this controls the Edge. Ensure the Edge sound is assigned correctly. |
| Crosstalk/Mask Time | Adjust as needed | If hitting the bow triggers the bell, or vice-versa, increase the Crosstalk Cancel and/or Retrigger Cancel for the affected input until the false triggers stop. |
