Configuring a Lemon 3-Zone Ride Cymbals

The Lemon 3-Zone Ride is fully compatible with the Pearl Mimic Pro and provides independent bow, edge and bell triggering when connected correctly.

What you’ll need

• Lemon 3-Zone Ride Cymbal
• 2 × ¼” TRS (stereo) jack cables
• Pearl Mimic Pro drum module

Step 1 – Connect the cymbal

The Lemon ride uses two TRS outputs.

Connect the cymbal as follows:

• Ride Output 1 (Bow/Edge) → RIDE input on the Mimic Pro
• Ride Output 2 (Bow/Bell) → AUX input on the Mimic Pro

Important: Both cables must be stereo (TRS) cables. Using a mono (TS) cable will prevent correct operation of the bell or edge zones.

Step 2 – Select the trigger type

1. Open Trigger Settings.
2. Select the Ride input.
3. Choose a trigger preset designed for a dual-cable, 3-zone ride cymbal (Roland-style ride presets generally provide an excellent starting point).
4. Save the settings.

If the Lemon cymbal is not listed specifically, select the closest compatible Roland-style 3-zone ride and fine tune from there.

Step 3 – Check all three zones

Test each playing area:

• Bow – main playing surface
• Edge – outer edge
• Bell – raised centre section

Each should trigger its own sound.

Step 4 – Fine tune if required

If necessary, adjust:

• Sensitivity – increase if light hits are missed.
• Threshold – reduce slightly if softer hits are not detected.
• Crosstalk – increase only if nearby pads are causing false triggers.

Most users find only minor adjustments are needed.

Troubleshooting

Bell doesn’t trigger

• Confirm both TRS cables are connected.
• Check that the second cable is connected to the AUX input.
• Verify both cables are stereo (TRS).
• Strike the bell using the shoulder of the stick, rather than the tip, for the most reliable triggering.

Bell and edge are reversed

If the bell and edge sounds appear to be swapped, simply swap the two cables at the cymbal end.

Only two zones work

This almost always indicates:

• one cable is disconnected,
• a mono (TS) cable is being used, or
• the ride has been configured as a single-input ride.

The Mimic Pro also includes a Split Ride option for using two single-input rides. This setting should be disabled when using the Lemon dual-cable 3-zone ride.

Recommended starting point

For most users, the default Roland-style 3-zone ride trigger preset with minimal sensitivity adjustments provides excellent performance. After confirming all three zones trigger correctly, make only small changes to the trigger settings to suit your playing style.
